The Batman

Director: Matt Reeves, Cinematographer: Greig Fraser

The Batman has been widely praised for it’s unique shots – grimy, dark, painted-like look for the denizens of Gotham.

The film was shot mostly on “de-tuned” modern anamorphic lenses, but the Penguin car chase scene was rumoured to have been shot with Helios 44-2 58mm and Jupiter 9 85mm rehoused by IronGlass.

The Witch

Director: Robert Eggers, Cinematographer: Jarin Blaschke

Shot with Super Baltar and Cooke Speed Panchro lenses. DP Jarin Blaschke also mentions that he shot a majority of the film on 32mm.

“To me, the consistency of perspective is very important to the visual continuity of a film. I like to settle on a “lens feel” for the majority of a film.”

“…A 32mm was a very natural choice to frame by: everything falls into place in a classical way but it still has enough spacial depth to feel “present.””
